In the Bed and Breakfast industry in New Zealand there is widespread belief that the future bodes well due to Tourism New Zealand reporting significant gains in visitor numbers over the past year – with an estimated 150,000 extra people gracing our shores. And all these arrivals have need of the 4 vital components in Tourism;
3) leisure activities
The number of arrivals from Germany rose by 16.6%, while visitor numbers rose by 2.8% for the UK and 11.7% for the USA.
There was also strong growth in the Asian markets, with Singapore up 18.6% and Malaysia up 19.4%. An increase in the number of arrivals was also recorded in Indonesia, India and China.
The Australian market also continued to grow – up 4.4% for the year.
(if only Team New Zealand had bought the Americas Cup home ….)
Although we are in the middle of Winter here in Auckland and although traffic flow into the Bed and Breakfast is slower ; I find great delight in seeing the Billionaires involved in the Americas Cup already starting to moan .
The lack of clarity from holders Oracle Team USA around the next America’s Cup looks to have cost organisers its challenger of record.
Hamilton Island Yacht Club today advised America’s Cup organisers of their intention to withdraw Team Australia from the 35th America’s Cup.
A statement from the syndicate said it was proving too difficult for a start-up commercial team to put a challenge together when no dates or venue have been confirmed for the event.
Russell Coutts, director of the America’s Cup Event Authority (ACEA) said he was very disappointed to receive the news.
“We were excited to have Australia as a challenger and we were also looking forward to the prospect of holding America’s Cup World Series events in Australia,” said Coutts.
But our focus going forward is with the teams that have already submitted challenges and the teams that have told us of their intent to do so before the entry deadline on August 8th.
In a competitors meeting held in Los Angeles last weekend, several teams expressed their reservations over the two remaining venue options – San Diego and Bermuda – and emphasised the a lack of certainly around dates and venue was hampering efforts to secure funding.
It appears Team Australia, who were responsible for negotiating the Protocol with the defenders, were finding the going particularly tough.
It is not yet known who the new challenger of record will be, but it is understood the ACEA have already received official entries from Italian team Luna Rossa and Swedish syndicate Artemis – the challenger of record for the 34th event.
Emirates Team New Zealand CEO Grant Dalton said he was disappointed to see the Australian syndicate pull out but said the Kiwi team were on track.
“We have the class rule and the design team is well into its programme; the sailing team continues to compete successfully overseas, with great recent results by Dean Barker and Glenn Ashby in the A class cats worlds and Peter Burling and Blair Tuke still dominating the 49er scene,” said Dalton.
“In addition, we have never been in better shape with potential
Auckland has been full for the past3 weeks with very little available accommodation for any travellers. At Eden Park Bed and Breakfast we have had the unusual scenario of travellers (without reservations) turning up at the door wanting accommodation. Sorry but pre booked clients have first priority

When you are in the Accommodation industry you get to hear of some crazy stories about other properties. This one is a pure hoot of a story about a high class property forgetting about the small details
A Danish family who have spent thousands of dollars visiting exclusive Huka Lodge were horrified the driver organised by the resort was arrested on the way back to Auckland – leaving the family stranded at a McDonald’s. Kare Schultz, his girlfriend Marianne Schnor and her four children, had spent four days at Huka Lodge in Taupo and were about halfway between Taupo and Hamilton when their driver was pulled over by police on Thursday. The driver was arrested for giving false details and the family were told by an officer he had no driver’s licence and was known to them.
Appalled, they contacted Huka Lodge and were told they could have a 50 per cent refund, only to have the offer withdrawn by the general manager the next day and a lesser amount promised.
The resort’s general manager last night said they were reviewing their links with the transport company and the driver involved refused to comment. Mr Schultz and his family arrived in Auckland on July 15 and met the driver who would take them to Taupo at the airport. The transport had been arranged by the resort when they booked and cost $1000 each way.
At Eden park Bed and Breakfast we provide Airport Transfers but use a legal transportation company called Supercare4u.com
At Eden Park Bed and Breakfast ; we use a very simplistic method of SEO
Normally we welcome all guests who arrive at a Bed and Breakfast with open arms , although I have never experienced the arrival that another Property had the misfortune to experience.
The man who twice drove into a Napier bed and breakfast has pleaded guilty to reckless driving and being more than 2 ½ times over the legal breath alcohol limit.
The car sped over a centre island and smashed into the Sea Breeze Bed and Breakfast.
It then reversed out of the building at speed, back over the centre island and collided with a car driving south.
His car spun around and ran into another car. He then accelerated backwards over the centre island and smashed into the bed and breakfast again. The car stopped but Kershaw restarted it and drove off. He was stopped by a police officer a short distance away.
Now you have to admit that is one for the records !!!!!!!!
