We all try to be perfect but living in Auckland, New Zealand does create a series of obstacles when we try to do our bit for the environment. Within the Tourism Industry “down under” the buzz word is Environmental Sustainability.

We do the recyclying of paper, tins and bottles. This is part of our local government services. Every Tuesday. The light bulbs have been replaced with the squiggly wiggleys. Although the five chandelliers in the house do not give the visual appeal with these additioins so we have compromised with low wattage bulbs.

The showers have had flow resistace valves inserted to reduce flow rates and we keep electricity usage to minimum.

And all these small steps allow us to do “our bit”. But my aim with these blog postings is to present an update on my projects .

Over the balance of this year i will be installing a rain water harvesting system that will allow for toilet flushing(5 of them), an efficient worm farm for utilisation of the daily food waste and a project for the remineralisation of the soil using crushed rock dust.
